WAHO DIRECTOR GENERAL MEETS THE GAMBIA’S MINISTER OF HEALTH

The Director General of the West African Health Organisation (WAHO), Prof. Palokinam T. PITCHE, paid a courtesy visit to The Gambia’s Minister of Health, Dr Ahmadou Lamin Samateh, on 26 October 2026 in Banjul, The Gambia.

Their discussions centred on WAHO’s partnership with The Gambia and the contribution of regional action to meeting the country’s health needs.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss how collaboration between national authorities and regional institutions can help improve the availability and quality of health services. Both officials underscored the value of working together on health challenges that extend beyond national borders.

For WAHO, engagement with Member States is essential to ensuring that regional health initiatives respond to national priorities. The West African Health Organisation (WAHO), the specialised Institution of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) responsible for health issues, supports this dialogue as part of its mandate to improve the health and well-being of West African populations.

The Minister reaffirmed The Gambia’s readiness to pursue its collaboration with WAHO and its partners for the benefit of communities in the country and the wider region.
