From 31 to 1st November 2017, a technical working session between WAHO and an AFD team was held in Ouagadougou. The meeting brought together the Director General WAHO, and staff of the institution, including professionals of the DEMSAN project. The meeting, which seek to present an overview of the work accomplished after six months of program implementation, aims at presenting a progress report on the implementation of DEMSAN activities.
The discussions involved the presentation of the physical assessment of activities implemented from 1st April to 31 October 2017, considering the financial balance sheets of activities over the same period and receiving comments from AFD on the two assessments with a view to providing answers and finally engaging in discussions with AFD on the Regional Programme of activities for 2018.
Endowed with an amount of 10 million euros over a period of three years, starting from 2017, the regional Demography, Sexual and Reproductive Health (DEMSAN) programme was instituted by the West Africa Health Organisation (WAHO), with technical and financial support from the French Development Agency (AFD). The objective is to:
Strengthen WAHO’s role and mission in piloting and managing knowledge on demographic, sexual and reproductive health issues;
Enhance policy advocacy for sexual and reproductive health and rights, and foster the emergence of civil society in these areas;
Build the capacity of member States in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and strategies for Human Rights and Sexual and Reproductive Health (HRSRH)
