Instituted by the Directorate General of WAHO, the annual Staff retreat achieves a double objective of introspection on the life of the institution after each year of activities but also the will to create and consolidate the team spirit within the institution.
It is in line with the subjective that each year the entire staff meets outside the work environment to discuss the achievements and the lapses over the twelve the preceding months and other issues that are likely to positively move forward the interventions and image of institution. To examine the activities of the 2017 calendar year, the rendezvous was in Koudougou from 11 to 13 January 2018, in line with this tradition.
The official opening of the 2017 retreat was presided by the Secretary General of Centre-West Region, and the presence of the Management and the entire staff of institution. On this occasion the Director of Internal Services, Coordinator of the Retreat, encourages all the workers to get effectively involved in the activities outlined in the program. He expressed that the wish that this gathering at the beginning of the year would be the starting point of a new thrust in dealing with future challenges.
For Dr. Xavier CRESPIN, the positive status report achieved by WAHO for 2017 is to the entire staff, each of who was able to play his/her role within the institution. That is why he congratulated the worker and invited them to double their efforts with regard to do work ahead in 2018 « I extended my gratitude to you all and wish that we would maintain this thrust in order to chalk greater achievements in our quest for the wellbeing of the people of ECOWAS", declared Dr. Xavier CRESPIN, Director General of WAHO.
Finally, the Secretary General of the Centre-West Region expressed satisfaction for the choice of the city Koudougou for the retreat. He commended the Institution’s vision of integration and the close touch it has with the population.
The actual deliberations were marked by a series of presentations on the implementation of recommendations from the 2016 staff retreat, staff preparation towards retirement, and also the presentation on first aid in situations of sickness or accident. In this regard, mention should be made of the Director General’s presentation on the positive achievements made during year 2017, particularly in areas including partnerships, with the signing of several agreements and memoranda, the starting of at least 19 projects, the appreciable implementation of the 2016-2020 strategic plan, the establishment and operationalization of the Regional Center for Disease Control and surveillance (RCDCS), the organization of forums, respectively on best practices in health and on the nutrition; financial and technical support to ECOWAS countries in several fields, capacity building for almost the entire staff in several sectors, Etc.
Along with these various aspects relating to the operations of institution, a special place was given to sporting and recreational activities, which fostered interactions WAHO staff and the people of Koudougou.
Besides the presentations, the Koudougou retreat was an occasion for this staff to take on overview of the activity report of the WAHO Staff Association (WSA), a friendly mutual-support association aiming at collectively promoting, together with the Directorate General, the staff interests, organizing the recreational activities, and fostering a spirit of solidarity and family among the entire staff. Worthy of note is the gesture of gratitude from the Directorate General, which awarded certificates of acknowledgment and satisfaction to some workers for the volume and quality of work done for the benefit of the community.
