 Evaluation Missions in Cabo Verde

Praia, Cabo Verde and Bissau, Guinea-Bissau – As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the health systems of ECOWAS member states, the West African Health Organization (WAHO) conducted a strategic monitoring and evaluation mission in Cabo Verde and Guinea-Bissau in November 2024.

This initiative is part of a broader commitment to ensuring the effectiveness of the technical, financial, and material support provided by WAHO to member countries, promoting significant improvements in health services across the region.

The main objectives of this mission were to update the status of the implementation of the support  provided in previous years, collect and analyze technical reports and expense documentation submitted by direct  beneficiaries, document the results achieved and the good management practices adopted, and identify persistent challenges to propose appropriate solutions aimed at enhancing the new management system in place since early 2024. These efforts seek not only to strengthen health systems but also to ensure that allocated resources are used efficiently and transparently.

The delegation leading this mission included the PPO for Health Information, Mr. Tomé CA, the PO for Programming, Dr. ADOHINZIN Clétus, and the Assistant Accountant, Mr. Salif GNOUMOU.

OOAS

During this mission, meetings were held with focal points, financial managers, and local authorities. These discussions allowed for a deeper understanding of the progress made in managing the support and implementing activities, as well as the challenges encountered, fostering a constructive dialogue focused on solutions.

The mission’s outcomes include the consolidation of effective practices in the management of thensupport provided, thereby sustainably strengthening the public health systems of the beneficiary countries. This mission reaffirms WAHO’s commitment to leading initiatives that promote excellence in resource management and continuous improvement in public health across the region.

WAHO remains committed to supporting ECOWAS member states in building resilient and effective health systems, thereby contributing to a healthier and more prosperous future for the entire region.
