The initiative is within the framework of the implementation of the regional project for Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) control in the Sahel, covering Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. The hydrocele surgery, which has been opened, is the 4th of its kind organised by WAHO. It is in line with the implementation of one of the project strategies, namely, the surgical treatment of the irreversible consequences trachoma and lymphatic filariasis at the community hello yes please done.
It is within this context that the Banfora Regional Medical Center (RMC) located within the project zone, was identified for treatment of sixty (50) cases of hydrocele in patients of the Cascades region.
During the 7 days (27 November to 3 December 2017), regional expense, particularly surgeons from project beneficiary countries (Mali and Niger) were present in Banfora to share their experiences but also to learn from their counterpart surgeons from Burkina Faso, to relieve patients suffering from this disease.
The camp activities started with a workshop to train/upgrade the team from Banfora surgical ward on the technique recommended by WHO for the treatment of hydroceles. Presentations following discussions/overviews, brainstorming, questions/answer sessions and demonstration/practical work were followed by other presentations on patients Banfora RMC.
A WAHO delegation, led by the project officer on Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases in the Sahel, was present at the Banfora RMC to encourage all stakeholders and provide support to WAHO towards the organisation of the hydrocele surgery camp. The official ceremony to launch this activity will be on 30 November 2017 in the morning at the Banfora RMC under the patronage of the Ministry of health of Burkina Faso and of WAHO.
