WAHO DG, Prof. Stanley Okolo pays a courtesy and a working visit to countries in the region
Professor Stanley Okolo soon upon assuming office as the new Director General of the West African Health Organization (WAHO), conducted some courtesy and working visit to some countries in the region.
He visited Mali where he met the Project Management Units of the Sahel Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases Project and the SWEDD in Bamako. At the heart of their discussion was how to strengthen the implementation of both projects.
In Bamako, he also visited The Regional Centre for Animal Health in Bamako which is important for one health approach to health improvement in West Africa. The DG is of the opinion that the center must be quickly operationalized and supported, as it is also a potential regional center for research into animal health.
In Lome he met with the Minister of Health & current Chair of ECOWAS Assembly of Health Ministers Prof Moustafa Mijiyawa, the ECOWAS Permanent Representative Garba Lompo & Nigeria Ambassador Sola Iji. They discussed among others the strengthening of health systems, hospital leadership, outcomes focus & WAHO Quality Standards.
In Burkina Faso, he interacted with the Minister of Health, Prof Nicolas Meda, eminent gynecologist & epidemiologist.
