Accra, Ghana, April 26, 2017 ' The West African Health Organization (WAHO) has donated 10 Suzuki TF 125 motorbikes, valued at GHS 160,000 to the Ministry of Health for the use of Ghana's newly established Mental Health Authority.
Presenting the motorbikes, the Director General of WAHO, Dr. Xavier Crespin said the donation was in fulfilment of a promise he made when he paid a courtesy call on the President of Ghana, in March 2017. Receiving the motorbikes, the Deputy Minister of Health, Honorable Kingsley Aboagye-Gyedu expressed gratitude to WAHO for the kind gesture and urged other institutions to emulate it. He noted that the Mental Health sector in Ghana needs a lot of support as it is difficult for it to generate funds internally. He urged the Mental Health Authority to consider setting up a Foundation to which individuals, institutions and religious organizations could contribute. The Deputy Minister of Health, then handed over the keys of the motorbikes to the CEO of the Mental Health Authority, Dr. Akwasi Osei, who expressed gratitude to WAHO for honoring its promise.
