An Extraordinary meeting of the Assembly of ECOWAS Health Ministers was held in Accra, Ghana for the adoption of the WAHO Vision 2030 Strategic Plan which is a document that identifies the way WAHO/ECOWAS optimizes the health needs of its citizens by accelerating access to and availability of inclusive and affordable quality health services, ensuring effective public health emergency preparedness and response capabilities across the ECOWAS region, and strengthening WAHO’s institutional processes in promoting organizational excellence.
Simultaneously, the first ever Universal Health Care Summit was held in the region which was coordinated and convened by WAHO. This high-level summit brought together once again the ECOWAS Ministers of Health, and a select number of ECOWAS Ministers of Finance to ensure a multi-sectorial approach to achieving UHC. This meeting also saw the participation of the Minister of Health of Mauritania, H.E. M. Sidi Ould ZAHAF as an observer, (and for sharing of best practices), following an invitation from the DG of WAHO.
