Accompanied by his Executive Assistant and the WAHO Focal Point for Mali, the Director General of WAHO undertook a working visit to the National E-health and Medical Informatics Agency of Mali in Bamako on 24 July 2017.

Received by Director General of the Agency, Dr Ousmane LY and staff, Dr Xavier CRESPIN and his entourage were there to apprise themselves with the activities of this Institution and engage in discussions on the activities it undertakes towards health improvement in Mali, in particular, and in ECOWAS countries in general.

In the presence of the staff of the Agency, the Director General of WAHO listened to a presentation on the services provided by the Agency and held discussions with the staff on some of the projects. The National E-health and Medical Informatics Agency of Mali, established in September 2008, aims at supporting the health system of Mali by facilitating the population’s access to specialised healthcare at all levels of the health pyramid through the reduction of geospatial constraints and the deficit in specialists. It also aims at helping to improve skills by supporting capacity building of health professionals.

In the discussions, Dr Xavier CRESPIN explained the importance his Institution attaches to e-health and his will to support the National E-health and Medical Informatics Agency of Mali and that of other countries in line with the procedures and depending on WAHO’s budgetary allocation.

Since 2009, WAHO develops and provides support to e-health in the West Africa region through country support and regional meetings to foster value addition, through ICT, to quality health service provision to the people of ECOWAS.
