1. INTRODUCTION

This year (2020), on 9 July, WAHO is commemorating 33 years of its creation.

2. THEME

Since the beginning of this year (2020), the world has been fighting the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) which started in China. The ECOWAS region has not been spared and WAHO, as the Specialized Institution in charge of Health for the ECOWAS region, has been mandated by the Authority of Heads of State and Government to coordinate the regional response.

It is against this background that the theme for this year’s celebration of WAHO Day is:

• “Bridging the gap to health access amidst health insecurity”
