Regional Office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is organising a regional training workshop on Infection Control and Prevention in Conakry, Guinea.
The meeting, held from 27th November to 1st December 2017, brought together more than 30 regional Experts in infection control and prevention, technical and financial partners, International Red Cross Federation, Expertise France and others) The objective of this workshop is to build national and regional capacity on the concept and practices in infections control and prevention during epidemic outbreaks and other health emergencies. During the workshop, participants will examine crucial issues of concern relating to the control of the risk of infection in countries, including hand hygiene, safe management of wastes, treatment of reusable material, bio-cleaning, prevention of accidents of biological liquids exposure and antimicrobial resistance.
Participants congratulated WAHO, the backbone in the organisation of this workshop, for its initiatives in building the capacities of ECOWAS member States, for the efforts it deployed to make the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Disease Surveillance and Control operational, not forgetting its strategic role in the promotion of strategic mechanisms for a better preparedness of the region to deal with health treats.
Besides the orientation on the concepts and key practices, this workshop would analyse the regional context with regard to infection control and prevention and formulate recommendation to WAHO and ECOWAS countries with a view to readjusting the health systems in terms of infection control and prevention.
