WAHO and its partners organise in Ouagadougou a workshop to validate the Common Technical Document (CTD) on medicines registration

The deliberations of the workshop to validate the Common Technical Document (CTD) on the harmonisation of medicines registration in the ECOWAS region started today, 13 September 2017 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

This workshop co-organised by the West Africa Health Organization (WAHO) and the West Africa Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) is in line with the global programme for the harmonisation and regulation of medicines for human consumption within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). It receives support from WHO, USAID, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Bank.

It brought together representatives of the National Medicines Regulation Authorities from the fifteen ECOWAS countries, the ECOWAS Commission, Medicines Producer Associations (WAPMA, FAPMA, IFPMA, Johnson & Johnson) with the support of the East African Community (EAC).

This technical workshop to validate the CTD will end on Thursday 14 September 2017 and will be followed by a meeting of the Steering Committee of the West Africa Medicines Regulation Harmonisation (WA-MRH) programme on 15 September 2017 at the Hotel SPLENDID in Ouagadougou. The meeting will validate the final document.

It is worth noting that the technical validation of the document was preceded by the meeting of a subcommittee which worked on the document from 11 to 12 September 2017 to ensure consistency and alignment between the French, Portuguese and English versions. The current activity falls under the Sahel Women Empowerment and Demographic Dividend (SWEDD) regional project, funded by the World Bank.
