The West African Health Organization (WAHO) is organizing the Consensus Conference on Community Health Standards and Principles, which will take place from April 1 to 4, 2025, in Lomé, Togo.
This high-level event will bring together Technical and Financial Partners (TFPs), representatives from Ministries of Health, civil society organizations, academic communities, and institutions such as the African Union, Africa CDC, and Regional Economic Communities (RECs).
The conference aims to establish a consensus on the fundamental principles for promoting community empowerment and health and to validate a roadmap for the implementation of community health standards.
In a context where achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030 remains uncertain in several member states, the community health approach must be strengthened to ensure resilient, effective, and accessible health systems for all.
The conference will highlight strategies based on community empowerment, prevention, and health promotion while integrating multisectoral approaches such as "One Health" and "Health in All Policies."
Thematic presentations, group work, and expert-moderated discussions will support the validation of a draft set of standards and principles to strengthen national community health policies.
This conference presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the regional harmonization of community health approaches and to reinforce commitments to sustainable UHC.
